Submissions

We at VGWS welcome submissions from our visitors. Your submissions allow the site to grow and become a better repository and service for both yourself and others. To make the submission process smoother for both you and us, we ask that you review and follow the submission guidelines on this page. Be aware that the Copyright Information and Rules of Usage pages of the VGWS site may contain clauses related to submissions. Contact information is available on the Staff page, which is accessible from the "VGWS" link at the bottom of every page.

To submit...

If you would like to submit information or news about a new or updated utility, we greatly welcome that, as we would like to add as many utilities as we can to VGWS. "New" refers to both utilities that have been recently released or ones that we simply don't have yet. Information about saved game editors and utilities that convert emulation related files between formats is especially welcomed, but we'll also gladly take news and/or information on other utilities, as well. Please remember to include a URL for the utility or it's website so that we can check it again in the future. Also include a name or handle that we can use to give you credit if we mention the information in a news post.

If you'd like to submit a font to be used by the VGWS GameCounter and GameClock services, we'd be more than happy to put it on the site. There are a few rules for counter/clock fonts and these are listed below this paragraph. It is also suggested that you read over the Font Creation Tips page in the Help section for other information about making a font, especially if you've never made one in the past.

  1. No overly adult material, even if it's straight from a game. If you have questions about an image you'd like to use in a font, feel free to ask about it by email.
  2. It is highly recommended that every new font have a colon image, as the lack of a colon image makes the font incompatible with the VGWS clock. The A.M. and P.M. images for a clock-compatible font are optional, but those are recommended, too.
  3. Each individual image in the font MUST be the same size in height, or portions of images will be cropped from displayed counters. It's a good idea for all the number images to also have the same width, but that is not required.
  4. Create a preview image, like those shown on the Counter/Clock Fonts pages. The preview image should be no more than 400 pixels wide, as anything larger than that might mess with the site design. A preview image should show all the images in the font together.
  5. All the digit, colon, A.M., and P.M. images must be saved in PNG format. No JPGs, GIFs, or other images will work with the counter or clock. If you do send GIF or JPG images, you may be asked to convert them to PNG and send them again, depending on the amount of time available to the staff. The preview image can be a PNG, JPG or GIF as desired.
  6. The upperleft most pixel of the image (that's (0,0) for those of you familiar with image editing) must be the color that you wish to use as the background color of the font and should not be used elsewhere in the font. If someone chooses to change the background color in the Code Generator, the color of that pixel will be overwritten with their chosen color. You can ignore this if you're using a background pattern instead of a color, however.

You may send either a URL where the images can be downloaded or a ZIP file containing all the images. We also ask that you mention what the fonts are based on, where the images used came from if you took them from a website (site name and URL), what category the font fits best (i.e., RPG, Strategy, Action, etc.), and your name or handle.

Any questions about the appropriateness of a font or it's content should be directed to Tempest of Shadows. Fonts do not have to be related directly to video games; as long as there is even a small connection to any game, the font is potential VGWS material!

Please send all saved game submissions in a ZIP file containing the saved game(s) being submitted and a TXT file with the following information:

Your name or handle
Name of the game(s) the saved games are for
Name of the emulator(s) the saved games are for (or system, if Playstation or Dreamcast)
Filename extension of ROM (only necessary for Genesis or SNES saves)
Language of the ROM (only necessary if the language is not English)
A description of where each save will start a player at in the game

Please be sure to send this information in a simple text file. Other file formats, especially .DOC, may cause your submission to be rejected.

If you are the author of a utility or program related to emulation files, especially saved games, we'll gladly host versions of your program here on VGWS in our Emulation section. If you'd like for us to carry your program or post updates about it, send your URL to Tempest of Shadows.

Sprites and animations can be sent to Tempest of Shadows. Please include the following information with your file(s):

Your name or handle
Name of the game(s) the sprite(s)/animation(s) are from
The system that game is for
Name for each sprite/animation
Whether or not the sprite/animation is "custom"

"Custom," in terms of sprites and animations, means a sprite or animation made with or modified to include something not originally in the source game. For example, the Phantasy Star III Alair animations are customs because they were made using modified frames of another character.
